How To Prevent Installing Apps From Outside Microsoft Store In Windows

Microsoft continually strives to make Windows 10 the perfect desktop operating system. In every major update of Windows 10, Microsoft always includes a number of new features and improvements. One of the new features in Windows 10 Creators Update that is still related to Windows security is a feature to prevent the installation of apps coming from outside Microsoft Store.

By default, this feature is disabled so Windows users can still install third-party desktop apps. If this feature is enabled, Windows users can only install apps from Microsoft Store. Microsoft Store provides Universal Windows Platform (UWP) apps. This type of apps is for all compatible Windows devices such as PCs, tablets, smartphones, or Xbox.

In addition to business factor, another reason that encourages Microsoft to add this feature is to prevent Windows from the risk of the malware and spyware attacks. Microsoft assumes that apps coming from outside Windows Store are not safe, unlike apps from Microsoft Store that have met the Microsoft specifications, have been tested and are safe to install on Windows devices.

Microsoft Store does not provide all apps that are required by Windows users. Therefore, this feature is only an option that can be turned on or off anytime. If your Windows computer is for regular use and is enough with the apps installed in it, it is time for you to enable the feature on your Windows computer.

Right-click the Windows button (1) to open WinX menu and then select Settings (2).
